When School of Professional Studies instructor Rivers Pearce first moved to Charleston, it was in the hopes of making a living as a guitarist: a goal he realized soon after graduating from the College of Charleston Honor’s College.  However, after a move to Atlanta and several years of non-stop touring, Pearce decided to abandon his dreams of fame and fortune, and pursue an alternate career path. It was this decision that led him to the then-emerging field of search engine marketing.

Today, Pearce is back in Charleston, immersed in the thriving local tech scene as Director of Marketing for Boomtown, a real estate sales and marketing software company.  Pearce also contributes extensively to the SPS JobBridge initiative’s Digital Marketing and Social Media certificate course, where he now serves as the lead instructor.  With over 8 years of experience in online marketing - including work with numerous Fortune 500 companies - Pearce has acquired considerable experience in the areas of paid search, search engine optimization (SEO), and marketing/advertising technology: allowing him to share a wealth of expertise and wisdom with SPS students.  A champion for the local tech industry, Pearce also emphasizes the career possibilities for those who want to remain in the Charleston area.  “I think students should know that they don’t have to leave Charleston for ‘the big city’ nowadays if they’re interested in tech,” says Pearce.
